What We Used To Be

The Bible has a way of corrupting the weave
So that everything we should know becomes that which is given
And everything that is good and free becomes that which is believed
Turning "us" against "them"
Which are another way of saying "we"
What we used to be

Home is not something bought
Love is not something earned
Wisdom is not something which can be given
They all must be learned

And without any there to teach us ...
Where do we go?

Matthew 3:16

Does it seem like lately
The entire worlds gone crazy
Like we know the answers
When the questions elude

Are we holding on to something
That we both know's never coming
Our lies can't save us
From the measure of truth

I've known you long enough to see
That you really do love me
Are you strong enough to know
That you're better off letting go

Let go of me

Like a candle burning by the sunlight
Like a wrong that just won't feel right
Like a candle burning like a headache
Just as surely as the candles ends

And burns it's light away

A book of words unspoken
Written of the lost and broken
Can't see it clearly
Until you're walking away

And it's becoming clearer
That the end is drawing nearer
Sit and watch it falling
And I've nothing to say

I've known you long enough to see
That you really do love me
Are you strong enough to know
That you're better off letting go

Let go of me

Like a candle burning by the sunlight
Like a wrong that just won't feel right
Like a candle burning like a headache
Just as surely as the candles ends

And burns it's light away

How the hell did we get to here?
Our indecision is growing clear

Are we facing tomorrow alone?

Like a candle burning by the sunlight
Like a wrong that just won't feel right
Like a candle burning like a headache
Just as surely as the candles ends

And burns it's light away

How the hell did we get to here?
And where do we go?
